Who Is A Copywriter

My goal is to be a copywriter, but I’m an orthodox jew and can’t work on saturdays. Will that be a problem?
Can anyone who works in advertising tell me if this will be a problem? I don’t want to go into this field if I can’t keep my religious obligations. Please help.
I’m not aware of any agency or business that requires their copywriters to work on Saturday when it goes against the employee’s religion.
If you’re a good copywriter, and a prospective employer knows of your religious responsibilities, he or she will have no problem with you not working on Shabbat.
If you want to give this a test, call several agencies and ask to talk to their head copywriter or creative director. Explain that your goal is to be a copywriter, but you’re orthodox jew and can’t work on Saturdays. Ask if they’ve ever encountered a situation that would be problematic in this scenario. I’m betting they haven’t. And, along the way frmo these phone calls you just might make some very good contacts that can be of help to you in the future.
Good luck and Shalom.

Cross Dressing $0.99 Dan Steele Has It Made. He’s on top of his game as creative director of the The Prescott Agency in L.A., a jaundiced adman who looks at you and sees a narrow demographic-and a very fat paycheck. His identical twin, Michael, a do-gooder Catholic priest, can traipse around the Third World doing all the emergency relief work he wants. For Dan, doing good means having the biggest home entertainment center money can buy. But his life of conspicuous consumption is about to come to a horrible screeching whoa.Cross DressingJust returned from Rwanda, Father Michael is ill, so Dan sends him to the hospital on his own insurance coverage; what’s a brother for, right? But when Michael’s disease turns fatal, Dan is suddenly facing a prison sentence for insurance fraud. Since Dan also needs to hide from an enraged copywriter whose brilliant idea he stole, the best solution is to take up the cloth and masquerade as his brother, the Father. Soon, Dan is thrust into a world even savvier in the wiles of marketing and mass persuasion than his own: the world of organized religion. What’s worse, in addition to the homicidal copywriter and a righteous insurance investigator, a shadowy and dangerous figure from Father Michael’s past is also advancing ever closer toward Dan. And then the counterfeit clergyman lands at a run-down mission headed by the good-looking and strangely fascinating Sister Peg, who’s determined to help the downtrodden even if she has to pull a gun or two to do it. Try as he might to fight it, Peg is beginning to give Dan impure thoughts about renouncing his vow-not that he ever took one, anyway…Author Biography: Bill Fitzhugh was born and raised inJackson, Mississippi. He has worked in radio, television, and film. His other novels are Pest Control (1997) and The Organ Grinders (1998). He currently lives in Los Angeles, where he is at work on his next novel. |

How To Write Your Own Killer Sales Letter $1.99 Fire your copywriter and let me show you…”How YOU Can Write Your Own Sales Letter That Kills – Which Produces a Minimum 2-4% Conversion Rate – And Save Thousands From Hiring Your Own Copywriter!”At Long Last… YOU Can Now Write Your Own Professional Copy That Sells… Because I Am Going To Give You The “Brains” Of A Professional Copywriter – In Layman’s Terms! Dear Friend,Did you know? Just recently, I heard that a friend of mine has engaged a professional copywriter to write a perfect sales letter for his product. He paid the copywriter $10,000 for the sales copy written – and now he is enjoying a great 10-15% conversion rate produced by the sales letter written for him.In other words, every 10 to 15 prospects who read his sales letter would buy his product – with dead certainty. It did not take long until my friend covered his investment and later profited from his business, thanks to the copywriter he engaged. That is a perfect $10,000 well invested. Now, you wish you have had $10,000, don’t you?It is as if there is a huge gap between those who have money and those who don’t have money, and this gap decides who will go on to become the next best-seller and the rest will stay just that – broke.Chances are that: (tick any of the following that applies to you)You don’t have $10,000. If you have $10,000 to spare, there is no need for you to read this letter – just search for the same copywriter my friend has hired and you will enjoy the same, marvelous results. You have a product or service to sell. You have already researched the market and discover that there is a demand for the kind of product or service you want to sell. You have prepared your product or service and now what matters is, “How can I sell my product or service?”You wish you can write your own sales letter! You don’t have $10,000, granted, but even if you have $1,000 to spare, you may not be getting the |

Latte Lessons $0.99 Single Life Is Full Of Questions……imponderables such as: “Is it possible to transform an addiction to reality dating shows into a substitute for actual dating?” and “Is scanning demographic lists of available men with nice (read: British-sounding) names and upscale addresses more dignified if one does it in the privacy of one’s apartment with a bottle of wine and an equally romance-challenged friend?” Not having all the answers doesn’t keep thirty-year-old Claire Duncan up at night. She loves her job as a copywriter at a small Venice Beach advertising and promotion agency-even though it’s not making her much money. She loves her hemp drawstring capris-even though they’re not getting her any dates. And she loves her mother-who in turn despairs of ever having grandchildren. But Claire’s comfortable, moderately caffeinated routine gets a double-espresso jolt when she’s given the assignment of promoting an up-and-coming pop band. Heartthrob needs a change of image. And lead guitarist Brendan Baker has Claire rethinking her don’t-date-the-clients-no-matter-how-hot-they-are rule. His earnest brown-eyed gaze makes her feel like an underwear-throwing groupie. Which is quite below her, if you ask her co-worker Dennis-whose own revived love life leaves something to be desired, if you ask Claire. Suddenly-and quite accidentally-Claire has become someone to whom cute twenty-something boys (as well as guy pals and ex-boyfriends) are attracted, and everything has become just a tad more complicated than before. Not to mention a hell of a lot more fun… |

Liver: A Fictional Organ with a Surface Anatomy of Four Lobes $0.99 British satirist Will Self spins four interconnected stories into a brilliantly insightful commentary on human foibles and resilience. Will Self’s remarkable new stories center on the disease and decay that target the largest of human organs: the liver. Set in locales as toxic as a London drinking club and mundane as a clinic in an ultraorderly Swiss city, the stories distill the hard lives of their subjects whether alcoholic, drug addict, or cancer patient. I n “Fois Humane,” set at the Plantation Club, it’s always a Tuesday afternoon in midwinter, and the shivering denizens of this dusty realm spend their days observing its proprietor as he force-feeds the barman vodkaspiked beer. Joyce Beddoes, protagonist of “Leberknödel,” has terminal liver cancer and is on her way to be euthanized in Zurich when, miraculously, her disease goes into remission. In “Prometheus” a young copywriter at London’s most cutting edge ad agency has his liver nibbled by a griffon thrice daily, but he’s always in the pink the following morning and ready to make that killer pitch. If blood and bile flow through liverish London, the two arteries meet in “Birdy Num Num,” where “career junky” Billy Chobham performs little services for the customers who gather to wait for the Man, while in his blood a virus pullulates. A moving portrayal of egos, appetites and addictions, Liver is an extraordinary achievement. |

Looking For Atlantis $17.87 Description’Looking For Atlantis’ is about a kid who wants to change the world.Chris’ mam has MS and he spends a lot of his time looking after her and their home. She doesn’t always show any appreciation for his efforts.Added to that he has to put up with the usual teenage stuff – daft friends, even dafter teachers, an absent dad and a ‘does she like me/does she hate me?’ relationship with the new girl at school.Chris also spends his time writing to famous or wealthy people and encouraging them to help people less well off than themselves. In his letters to the Prime Minister, the Prince of Wales and the local Mayor, we see that Chris is caring, thoughtful and terribly naïve. He can’t understand why people don’t help as much as he’d like to – if only he had the means. The story hinges on Chris’ attempts to take his mam to Australia. He thinks that her illness will improve if she goes to a warmer country – and it is his dream to reunite her with the twin sister who emigrated many years earlier.About the AuthorMark Magrs was born in 1973 in County Durham and grew up in Newton Aycliffe. Lovers $1.01 Lovers is pure Krantz, an intoxicating dance of love lost, stolen, and found among women and men who lure each other with potent combinations of money, talent, ambition, and passion. Chief among them is irresistible Gigi Orsini, the high-spirited, merry, adventurous creature who grew up into enchanting womanhood in Scruples Two. Now Gigi is working as a copywriter in a new Los Angeles advertising agency, with her creative teammate, David Melville, a brilliant young art director who joins her in seeking new accounts. The agency is headed by dashing Archie Rourke, humorous Byron Bernheim and the severely difficult beauty, Victoria Frost, daughter of the famed Millicent Frost Caldwell who, with her husband Angus Caldwell, owns one of New York’s largest advertising agencies. Ben Winthrop, a proper Bostonian and an enormously successful mall builder, attempts to capture Gigi’s quicksilver affections, although his fierce contenders for the same prize include both David Melville and the dominating film director, Zach Nevsky. Meanwhile, Billy Winthrop Ikehorn Orsini Elliott, the unforgettably impulsive heroine of Scruples, and her new husband, the great charmer, Spider Elliott, are busy with their own fascinating lives, as are Gigi’s father, canny film producer Vito Orsini, and her best friend, the ravishing Sasha Nevsky, none of whom can be forgotten from Scruples and Scruples Two. Lovers completes all the stories set in motion in the first two novels, yet it stands entirely on its own as a slice of life in the exciting years of 1983 and 1984. |

Necrotrivia Vs. Skull $21 DescriptionWritten under the pen name Jeremy Clarke and originally published in 1988 to critical acclaim and strong sales, “Necrotrivia vs. Skull” is a scathing but playful satire of Western culture and materialism, its addictions and collective mental instability. “Necrotrivia” provides an interesting, fictional contrast to Jeremy’s memoir, “Victim of Dreams”, also available from Chipmunka. Indeed, “Necrotrivia’s main character, an alien who develops a junk food addiction and ends up a copywriter whoring a narcotic breakfast cereal, is in a way a prophetic cipher of the author, whose experiences and bipolar battles he mimics. Now accorded cult status, this new edition of the book features original graphics by Birmingham animator Aston Walker. About the AuthorJeremy Gluck is an expatriate Canadian who, with a parallel, successful life in the arts as a novelist, poet, musician lyricist, journalist and more, is now working in the voluntary mental health sector. Diagnosed some years ago with bipolar disorder, he has since written two books around mental health, the first a memoir, “Victim of Dreams”, and the second “A Definitive Guide to Mental Health Recovery”, a personal consideration of routes to recovery that includes contributions from a variety of expert thinkers on the subject. The reappearance after twenty years of his first book, the satirical novel “Necrotrivia vs. Skull”, brings this highly creative artist’s published work full circle. |

On discovering a plot to murder her after her wedding, she escapes from Kathmandu by assuming a false identity. In England she loses her original identity as completely as she lost her first love … or so she thinks. However, life has a few more surprises in store … . This love story is also the tale of a goddess who learns how to become a human being as she grows from a girl into a woman. Anjali Paul was born in Punjab, India. She has always wanted to be a writer and wrote her first story at the age of three. Fortunately, her command of language has improved since then. USED: Happy Hour $3.99 An alcoholic must choose between love, life, and the bottle in this independent comedy drama. Tulley (Anthony LaPaglia) is a self-described “drinker with a writing problem,” who after publishing a handful of well-respected short stories, began work on a novel. The novel, however, turned out to be a harder task than Tulley imagined, and he opted to take a job as an advertising copywriter, where he earns a good living but makes scant use of his talent. Tulley has also fallen into a habit of heavy drinking, as his best friend, Levine (Eric Stoltz), looks on with bemused concern. One night at a bar, Tulley meets Natalie (Caroleen Feeney), a teacher who doesn’t much care for children, and what starts as a one-night stand turns into a love affair. As Natalie gets to know Tulley better, she discovers the talent lurking behind his alcoholic defenses, and encourages him to devote himself to literature again. However, as they fall deeper in love, Tulley discovers he has a larger problem than his novel to deal with — he’s been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver, and won’t have long to live if he can’t change his ways. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide |

The first half of the memoir focuses on Heller’s childhood in Coney Island and is, in fact, as much about the place as it is about the man. Heller describes growing up, his mother and half-siblings in a fundamentally safe and fun neighborhood of punch ball, football , amusement park , and Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Stand.Heller describes his early passion for writing and some of the primary school papers that preview his adult fiction. Picking up late in high school, Heller reviews the various jobs he held before enlisting in the Air Force: telegram messenger boy , clerk at an insurance company, and blacksmith’s helper in a shipyard .With World War II looming, Heller enlisted in the US Army Air Corps , where he served as a bombardier . Heller describes several of his fellow soldiers and the events that would later become part of Catch-22 .Heller completed his required number of missions, was discharged, and was married to his first wife within five months. She accompanied him to college, which Heller attended on the GI Bill , but we learn very little about her. Heller describes his early attempts at writing fiction, which occurred while he worked as an English professor and ad copywriter, and reminds the reader of the many prominent American writers who have been unable to support themselves on their words alone.Heller provides interesting details from his life’s story, but doesn’t rehash |
